This check list is in the following categories:
Help your babysitter or childcare provider by giving them a checklist of things to do and important information.
Babysitters and childcare workers may not be able to remember all of your information without a checklist to refer to. This checklist of babysitting duties is important when needing to communicate your desires for a child's care.
  • List of phone numbers
Include instructions for when to call each number, who the person is, and where they live.
  • Child's schedule
When does the child need to eat, play, and take a nap? If there is a child in diapers, when do they usually need a diaper change?
  • Go over the house rules
  • Foods available for the child
  • Food and snacks available for the babysitter
  • CPR and emergency procedures
Make sure your babysitter understands how to care of a child in the case of an emergency (such as choking or a serious fall.)
  • Leave an extra set of house keys
It may be necessary to leave a key hidden outdoors in case the babysitter and children leave the home and get locked out.
  • Provide a list of activities for the children
This is a good time to be creative and suggest a new (yet simple) activity for the babysitter and children to do. For example, making jigglers, a simple craft, or introduce a new toy.
  • Provide a list of television programming that is allowed and the channel
  • Location of toys
  • Location of diaper-changing supplies
It is a good idea to make sure the sitter knows how you typically change your child's diaper. They may also benefit from tips as to how to bath and dress the infant, safely and easily.
  • Location of child's extra clothing
  • Explain how to use household appliances.
Make sure the babysitter knows how to load your dishwasher and washing machine, use the oven, television remote, alarm system, etc.
  • What should the babysitter do in the case of a power-outage?
  • Let child care worker know which toys, music, and foods your child prefers.
  • Let your babysitter know if they should answer the door or phone and what information they should give.
  • Location of fire extinguisher and first-aid kit
